Most dog coats are made for dogs shaped like Labradors
Which is unhelpful if yours is eleven inches off the ground and twice as long as it is tall. Generic coats ride up, leave the belly exposed, and end up bunched around the shoulders within about forty metres.
This one is cut for the shape. Long in the body, short in the leg, water-repellent on the outside and fleece-lined underneath.
Why it matters more for this breed
- They are closer to the ground. Wet grass and puddles reach a dachshund's belly in a way they never reach a taller dog's.
- Short coat, low body fat. They lose heat faster than they look like they should.
- Long back. Cold and damp on the spine is not something you want to make a habit of in a breed already prone to back trouble.
